well it's something at least, I don't know how is it there but here a governmental job means you are basically set for life. Not because it's a high paid job but because you will do jack shit and get paid anyway. It's not rare for people to have a governmental "job" and a side real job.
don't mind the normal people, you will get used to them. It's very easy to please them and "talk like them" to fit in after some time spend around them.
just be patient and make sure you have some time for yourself to gain your energy back after a day with them
