It actually made sense in La Paz and to some extent Bogota and Medellin but now others are trying to copy it even though it doesn't make sense.

The initial construction is very cheap, but its difficult to maintain and isn't very good for transit unless there are untraversable geographic constraints that it bypasses. Look at the lines during rush hour.

That's less than $2. Thats a lot cheaper than I thought it would be. I'd spend $100 on it easily. That ocean view is stunning.

its the same as a regular bus ride you pay for it with the same app you use on all trains/buses... compare it to this. its just a quick way to get from the train station to the university
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXCBOiAQtKs
which costs like 30 because its meant to be a tourist trap.

we also have one at a ski site but its far outside any city

Valparaรญso is a decadent city that has blocked all progress initiatives (new port, cruise terminals, reconstruction of the city) and its finuculars are no strangers to them.

They should modernize the ones they have and build new ones, but not a futuristic model that looks like an taxi of the empire in star wars or an amusement park train
I'll stick with an intermediate version
