I have asked my partner in the past what the draw of true crime is and she didn't have a confident answer either. Best guess was it's a way to feel more in control since most have to deal with the possibility of rape and murder any time they go outside. So maybe learning more about the little freaks that actively prey on women helps them to know what to watch out for or "makes them feel more agency" in the situation. That some of them then choose to get horny for the little freaks is an entirely different issue than the true crime interest, I think. Some dysfunction due to abuse or no father figure, who knows.
