White Americans get shit on constantly by browns for their food being unseasoned. It makes them feel like they're not part of the cool kids. They desperately want to be the ones making fun of others' food, so they latch onto the stereotype of British food also being bad, using "southern cuisine" and the ubiquity of American fast food as a defense when told that their food isn't great either. So basically, they're like a bullied kid who bullies others out of frustration.
