Ancient Incas are still pretty much alive and kicking, also I'm pretty sure they're in a position to restore their monarchy if they want because much of their nobility integrated with the Spanish one. Civilizations never "die". There are some atavistic characteristics that persist in society throughout the centuries, despite the changes in the modes of production and there relationships of production thereof.
