What so bad about it from a health perspective? It makes American carbonated drinks taste like ass, but isn't it just another type of sugar?

normal sugar is sucrose. fructose is metabolized differently. namely, faster. and it puts stress on your blood vessels.

Sucrose is 50/50 glucose/fructose.
>[High fructose corn syrup] "HFCS 42" and "HFCS 55" refer to dry weight fructose compositions of 42% and 55% respectively, the rest being glucose.[5] HFCS 42 is mainly used for processed foods and breakfast cereals, whereas HFCS 55 is used mostly for production of soft drinks.[5]
Fructose is metabolized more slowly, through the liver.

America's problem is sedentary lifestyles and overeating. The rest of the developed world is catching up to us anyway.
