Indonesian has a saying "dimana bumi dipijak disitu langit dijunjung" (where the earth is stepped on, there the sky is upheld). Meaning wherever you are right now, you should follow the local custom because it is the right thing to do.
I guess this is why we have a weak diaspora community, because whenever one of us becomes a diaspora, he essentially stops being an Indonesian and becomes one of whatever people/cultures that dwell that land.
