Due to the influx of foreign, spicy foods from India and Latin America into Europe and North America, I think younger generations will have higher spice tolerances than their parents.
I already experienced this today when my mother mentioned something was really spicy and she could hardly eat it, but when I tried it, it hardly felt like much spice.
Have you noticed or experienced this in your country?

I took my granddad to the local taqueria to grab some torta sandwiches, and asked for extra green sauce for the both of us. I basically trenched my entire sandwich in the stuff but he only put a small drizzle over it and immediately started sweating, but tried to hide the fact that it was clearly too spicy for him and just power through it because of pride.

But he's from Minnasota, so idk

Similar for me. My mom's from West Virginia. She tried eating samosas, and then immediately warned me they were really spicy, but they were mild, and so was the green sauce it came with.
I guess it's because she grew up on a diet of soggy boiled vegetables and bland chicken from my grandmother.
But the weird thing is that it's not like my diet was super spicy as a kid. We occasionally had spicy things, but usually it was just stuff like rice and chicken and vegetables, or spaghetti.

Do people unironically enjoy spicy food or is it a way to show "masculinity"

Some people probably do just enjoy burning their mouth as a show of masculinity.
But if it doesn't burn your mouth, food that's a little spicy can be a lot more flavorful and less bland than the same food without it.
It's just that for some people, that same food is spicy enough to burn their mouths and they can't taste much of anything.
I've had chana masala (Indian chickpea curry) that was spicy and tasted good, but it burned my friend's mouth. Then that same friend and I had chana masala in a cafeteria where it wasn't spicy at all, and my friend enjoyed it but I thought it was too bland.

Our food isn't even that spicy in general, it's just that black pepper was the spiciest food white americans tasted before immigrants arrived
