Have you looked at the state of modern France?
They were literally one of the if not the biggest proponents of the whole retarded liberal blank slate theory(anyone can become French, etc.) which is what's destroying Western countries right now and which caused France to mass import Nafris that literally hate them even after generations.
In Germany on the other hand it's a fairly recent phenomenon, but I would agree that German politics since Merkel have been especially retarded even compared to France.

But considering that the EU as a whole is based on these same self destructive ideas it's a doomed project anyway.
We would need a union based on respecting and preserving different European cultures and traditions not empty liberal "values"(which happen to be the exact same in every western country).
