>>212945501 (OP)In a lot of ex-soviet countries they have two mentions on their identification cards and passports, citizenship and nationality. For example, a person can be an Uzbek citizen of Tajik nationality. And it's legit because they have hard lines around their ethnic groups, they do not marry strangers and have their own language at home. In France, you have 4th generation Moroccans who do not speak darija, only French, who claim to be Moroccan because they don't fit in with actual French people. I really don't understand immigrants, why do these people curse their children with forever being foreigners, cut off from their roots and family, cut off from the land of their ancestors, having to cope with never having a place they can call home. I used to work with a guy who had come here to give a "better life" to his children, he was really nice but clearly his kids are going to be fucked up from going back to his country every summer and having no sense of belonging because of their traditional African upbringing. It's just so wrong and selfish to prioritize temporary material security over having a network of meaningful ties to a place.
