Apparently ALL Canadian beaches are having E. coli problems. Not only can you not go into the water, you can't even go to the SANDY parts of the beach either.

Beaches near cities sometimes get closed. The storm water and sewage systems are connected so if there's a large enough storm they'll merge and raw sewage will get dumped into the ocean. There are a lot of rivers contaminated with farming runoff but that's not such a big deal.
Luckily we're surrounded by the ocean so there are plenty of beaches that are great and sparsely populated outside of cities.
