Why do so many people live in big cities like New York? So dirty and unsafe. So many better places to live, even if the salary is good. I rather have a slightly lower salary and a comfy area with safe and walkable.

well in your paradise world you can find job anywhere you live
nyc is a big city with many jobs for all levels people go there for the number of jobs not just how well paid they are
think of how much affect tokyo has on the rest of japan, people would be much happier if they live in a more open and spacious place than tokyo but they are there for the availability of job
if they can have the same job say in shikoku or tohoku they will take it without argument

Is it really walkable if you don't feel safe walking? There is a reason rich people in NYC helicopter from building top to building top...

maybe not as safe as japan but it is safe enough for basically anyone to feel safe basically anywhere in the city.

I visited NYC with my gf before. I was traumatized. I felt safer in Bangkok and Saigon. This homeless man kept singing at me in the subway. I can't enter a Starbucks without some black homeless opening the door and trying to get a tip. Smell stink of marijuana everywhere. Saw some crazy people go crazy at a few places. The air bnb area we had in Brooklyn looked like those meth zombie towns. Very scary.

Basically NYC has a lot of issues like single mothers, welfare dependence and drug use. There also other things.

honestly I agree with you but I don't think we should be so harsh to op, like NYC and other cities in the USA should be nicer
