i prefer the green ones. the red ones are a bit too sweet, but great for home wine.

Sorry, I misunderstood your question because I'm drunk. Yeah, they grow good. Here in the Ural region and around at least. Wiki states it grow in Leningrad oblast as well.
The only problem with them are thrushes. They eat it very quickly, because it is one of the first berries to ripe.

It's kinda a mix between grape and lychee. The pulp texture is more on the lychee side.
The pulp is usually very sweet and more gooey and elastic than a lychee's. The skin is chewy and a bit bitter, but it's up to personal preference whether you wanna eat the skin or not, as once it bursts, it practically falls off the pulp.
