I’m 25 and still can’t drive a manual.
Is it over for me? Nearly all cars made after 2015 are automatics.
With hybrids and EVs becoming more common, everything’s going auto these days apart from the odd sports car like a Porsche, Lamborghini, or Ferrari, which tend to still offer manuals

don't know what it looks like in indonesia but you don't really see manuals anymore. most young people in america don't drive manual because its an old people skill, and a skill that gear-heads pick up on. they are increasingly being phased out

Those odd sport cars are now being made automatics, with a lot of electronic aids, so that the rich guy doesn't start spinning w/o control the first time he pushes the pedal to the floor.
On the other hand, modern automatics are much better at fuel economy than manuals, and given that every single government is pushing for low-pollution and fuel-efficient cars, manual is becoming a very expensive option for enthusiasts.

Driving a manual takes like 30 minutes of practice, it’s mind boggling how people talk about is as some skill

You press the clutch and change the gear into the appropriate one based on rpm and speed, that’s it

no. like you said, everything's auto these days. it's good enough for the average person. although that in itself arguably speaks of everyone being women these days and manufacturers getting away with forcing products with higher maintenance costs and shorter lifespans

My mother was like this
She wanted to get her license at 45, spent 25 hours of training with an instructor trying to learn stick.
Coulnd't, gave up, switched to automatic and passed the exam 1st time.
I found it really odd that some people struggle with operating a simple machine like that, but for her it occupied like 90% of her available brain power and when she was driving stick she didn't know what was going on around her, struggled to orient herself spatially and all that.

Her sister on the other hand has been driving stick since she was 18 years old and despite having 30+ years of driving experience at this point still drives like a novice, jerky starts, rough stops, reversing at 4k+ RPM and clutch plate being replaced every 75k kms.

My gf doesn't drive and I don't force her to, I'm actively trying to spend less time behind the wheel as well

You have feminine brain.

if driving a manual is a skill then walking is a skill too.
