Korean has way more sounds so adopting words of Chinese origin led to way fewer homophones, making hanja less essential to distinguish them. Even then it's far from a perfect process, there's many issues with using a Hangul only script, despite its undeniable benefits in being infinitely easier to learn.

Actually part of the reason Koreans wanted to ditch the mixed script is the belief that Japan imposed it on them during colonization (it didn't), and ditching it would be a way to assert their identity.

Japan doesn't have this sort of inferiority complex towards their script, although in the past there were voices calling to eliminate kanji due to anti-Chinese sentiment, but they never gained traction.

This is an example of the meme movement calling for a kana-only script.

The combination of kanji and kana makes Japanese look very pretty, if somewhat baroque.
Chinese, with just the Chinese characters, looks so dense it's a little scary.
Korean, even if its writing system is logical, looks like it's written by aliens, even compared to other scripts like Arabic script of Thai script.
