How come American punk was so much more advanced than British punk?

Good question.
>rhythm guitar lines are basically proto-punk in the style of the Stooges or MC5
>Verlaine's voice
>lyrics which deal with nihilism etc.

Post-punk is just punk where the musicians can actually play their instruments

>rhythm guitar lines are basically proto-punk
I don't hear it and it can't really be considered proto punk when punk was already an established genre when this album came out
>Verlaine's voice
I don't get, you mean his singing style? I don't really see it as punk
>lyrics which deal with nihilism etc.
Does it? I don't remember

Ah, now I remember. I don't consider this band punk, it sounds just like standard garage rock. This style is very similar to The Strokes and Velvet Underground interlock guitar playing where the rhythm guitarist plays basic power chords while the lead plays the melody. The guy who plays the lead for Television is amazing, those solos are mint. I forgot about this band.
