just do lots of practice math problems
it's not high level math, you just need speed and critical thinking
and yes A LOT of practice, it's not something you can just do a few times and forget about it, and plus it's pre-college, once that time passed it's pointless to get into it
but the skills you gain will help later on

Do you have "math clubs" back when you were in high school? It's like that. They do math stuff in clubs. Then they enter into competitions for district, cities, states, then nation wide. The best performers are picked for a team. Then somebody would coach the best of the best, they were usually winners of previous Olympiads, or somebody who excelled in their field. They very likely do it for free, as a hobby, or they're there to scout talents.

Team USA's informatics coach is a billionaire himself who works for OpenAI, and he's likely there to scout for talent.

Not in professional research. The whole
>dude le quirky number theory rote-memorized problems with an obligatory year reference that you have to do in 4 hours on a given day or suck a dick
are nothing like research. There is no extracurricular you can take when you are trained to do research. There is no set time and date when you do research. You do it consistently for years with constant doubt and anxiety in front of you. But itโ€™s always worth it because you finishing a hard proof is like a shot of heroin. Olympiads are like methheads taking a hit.

no, it's all based on your ability to formalize the problem into more logical math structures, some translation, and understanding of formal language
then you just best apply theory to problem

math at post grad is a bit more abstract

Gold in almost all competitions means 1st place, anon. You don't get Gold for being in 2nd place. Except in math olympiad, apparently.

No shit the placing itself is based on points, but usually the medals are not based on points, they're based on the placing which is based on points.

It's hit or miss and you can name exceptions because the pool of "top level researchers in maths" is so ridiculously small and variant that you cannot predict it out of high school in any precise way. But the fact that you sort of can with IMO is really remarkable to me, there is nothing of the sort in physics or literature or anything besides athletics. Because you're spewing some very reddity opinions right now, faggot. If you don't wanna get sniffed out, be less obvious and lurk moar.
>it literally is just practice
It literally is not. It is part practice, certainly. But if one does not have a genetic gift, they will never compete at the highest level. You can make it to regionals, state, maybe even nationals depending on your baseline and how hard you practice - but to be at the very TOP, you also need the genetics. For example, you or I could practice for 8 hours a day since age 5 and never reach the Olympics (I'd wager).
>if you got into math club and you like doing olympiad problems iq isn't an issue anymore
No, because part of the competition is also how quickly you can solve them, how consistent you are, and oh you know...whether or not you're actually getting them right. Simply being in math club and competing at the top are two very different things, lol.

That's like saying playing high school sport at a high enough level to receive a college scholarship takes more than hard work. It takes a combination of hard work and talent. Like, kinda stating the obvious bud.
Despite that, you've also acknowledged that hard work can take you a long way, enough to be competitive but not enough to be the cream of the crop ... which is kind of my point.

You aren't a mathematician. Math is done for the sake of searching for the Truth and Order. Some Jew using me to squeeze money is nothing compared to understanding the intricate connections between the various branches of math. Mathematics is an idealist's pursuit; materialistic money-hoarding niggers go into quant, finance, engineering, AI, IT, and other soulless shit. Mathematics is eternal and pure.
