>>213117282 (OP)Even in my late teens and before contemporary online culture, I had a pretty clear idea that I never wanted to actually get married or have children. This didn't change throughout my 20s and 30s, which are now entirely behind me. The only way that I would want to get a house is if I could buy it outright.
When I graudated college, a short time later, after taking work, I was fortunate enough to be able, within a few months, to entirely, totally and completely pay off all debt (small student loan balance), once and for all. I was so pleased with this that I resolved to live debt free from then on, and outside of a small sweetheart deal with the parents on one cheap car (not directly involving any bank), I have done so ever since. I don't want to be in debt for any reason, not even for the purpose of building equity in some house, "working towards" some long-term goal. It's the same basic reason I never wanted kids. I just plain don't want to be on the hook for anything that really counts. I refuse responsibility and accountability, and I am in a position to be able to do so.
