After the fall of the Soviet Union, a lot of Jews moved to Germany. There's a very old law that if their great-great-great-great-great grandfathers had been German, they can claim citizenship or something.
Anyway, that pissed off all the German Jews, because German Jews were liberal and reformed, while Russian Jews were backwards and orthodox. And in many community those backwards Jews were suddenly the majority.
