imagine you were from a thirdie, didn't learn english and stuck mainly with whatever is in your shithole's language. linguistics = basically your life.
considering you are from us there aren't many languages that will surpass english and the culture comes with it though.
still its a fun to communicate natively with people from other cultures or understand some hidden nuances from a experience standpoint. if you won't use it at all and learning just for the sake of it, then only thing you would get from that is occasional "wow how did you learn (language), you're so alpha"s
