If the only thing about history you care about are the battles. Then you dont care about history. You just care about battles. And only the famous ones that have been done to death.

i dont know shit about ww2 outside of balkan but even that is boring.

My niche is the petty bourgeoisie of 19th century serbia and early capitalism, karadjordjevic dynasty, dissidents in socialist yugoslavia and all the history regarding my small town from the ottomans to today.
I even published a series of 3 texts in a newspaper regarding the origins of all the statues in our town.

The one thing I really only love about WW2 is the different factions and ideologies that were all fighting on the one continent over a period of time. You had Chinese warlords, fascists, imperial monarchs, liberal democracies, Totalitarian communists and Anarchists. And even the Russian Civil war before that was a bigger mess with a bunch of different crazy groups all declaring independence and fighting each other. Its far more interesting then the overall allies vs axis most people portray it as and its not something you really see today. Every country now is just a different version of gay liberal democracy and dictatorships that are too scared to call themselves dictatorships.

I also find internal politics of empires and countries way more interesting then outside wars. Like different factions inside the one nation.

Grab 30 years war a tragedy of europe by wilson. Thick book. Might kill you if it falls on your head. Good shit

I read there an account from a student at one of the german universities. He was complainig that a scholariship that before the war allowed him to feed himself for a year couldn't even buy a pair of shoes

I also read that in Breslau price of bread rose 15x at the beggining of the war

kipper und wipper zeit must've been brutal.
