The city is very vertical and built into the hills around it. They don't really terraform, they just build right onto the slopes and add on to the old buildings beneath. The tops of the hills have wealthy estates and compounds while the valleys below are filled with cramped tenements and narrow alleys.
Imagine Deus Ex or Cyberpunk but with ancient Roman and Ottoman ruins in the undercity. Something crazy like 90% of Jordan lives in the Amman area, and with war refugees relocating there the city felt particularly cramped. I will admit that Jordanians are by far the chillest middle easterners that I've ever encountered. I went all over the city and literally everyone was happy and eager to meet an American. Beautiful sights too, I definitely recommend Jordan over any of the gulf countries.
