Irish anons, what do you think of Scotland?
Scottish anons, how do you view Ireland?
I am curious about the relations between these two nations.

I like Scotland. I think they're pretty well liked here.
Some of them hate us apparently because of Irish immigration in the 19th century and football autism but I imagine that's just a minority these days.

I'd say Scots fall into these categories:

>Lowland Anglo Scots
Descended from Anglos from Northumbria so ethnically they're essentially just English. That said, their reformation was more harsh than England's. They went Calvanist while England went Anglican. Calvinism was more extreme and anti-Catholic than Anglicanism, which itself was just a reskinned Catholicism. I think its idea of predeterminism specifically made them worse people. There was no incentive to act good like in Catholicism which made them more brutal. These are the stock that planted Ulster and we have tensions to this day. If anything, the Catholic/Protestant (or Irish/British if you prefer to call it) conflict is stronger in parts of Scotland than in Northern Ireland

>Modern Irish diaspora
A lot moved over in the 1800's during the famine once tenant farming was no longer viable. Most modern Scots who identify as anti-British are descended from these. These people are pro-Irish but are also often very leftist. Obviously I'd prefer them to the Protestant Scots since they don't hate me but I also think their identity as Scottish feels hollow as they're literally just Irish. Most people in Scotland fall into one of these 2 groups and neither feel like they're simply just Scottish

>Old Gaelic Highlander stock
These are the descendants of the Gaels that settled in Scotland in the early Middle Ages. They evolved parallel to us over time and these are what I would consider to be authentic Celtic Scots. They only make up a tiny portion of modern Scotland though. They're my favourite ones

>Modern immigrants not native to either Ireland or Britain
N/A

Overall, I have mixed feelings. It's a weird situation because both countries have a large diaspora in each other that hates their adopted countries. On a positive note, I think Scotland has beautiful nature and punched above its weight massively in the sciences and cultural influence on the world stage

You probably know better than I do here but I think generally speaking the Presbyterian colonists were bigger supports of the revolution than the Anglican ones? And that they played a big role in expanding the frontier as it was at the time? I think their fervor and anti-Authoritarian streak definitely shaped the American psyche

Ironically, it was our immigration that started to undo that and give rise to the modern American identity. Our diaspora started the trend of the hyphenated "-American" identity that still looked towards its ancestral homeland instead of fully embracing its American identity which lead to the melting pot it is today. Still, I think that's just incidental though, because we were the first major immigrant group post independence. If it was the Italians or Germans before us, they would've started it instead

Both have a self inflated view of themselves, so they get on well
