I've never met someone from NJ in my entire life (online or irl), I can't name anything from there besides The Sopranos, and I didn't even know any cities in the state until a few months ago, yet every time I say no one cares about it people get angry at me saying it's somehow "famous"
I'm convinced this is just a made up state that's really just a suburb of New York

Same unironically. I've met countless people from Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massuchusets, Upstate New York, Maryland, and even Delaware. Never once met someone from New Jersey.

Atlantic City used to be the Las Vegas of New York until two decades or so. I don't know what happened, but it's an ugly dump today. It was referenced in a few movies back in the day, though.
