The Cambodian King was asked by the Thai King to return the bucket. Ignorant of a Thai tradition involving that rulers father and the symbolic value of buckets the Cambodian King said a bucket wasn't worth the breath of a runner, not to speak of a written record.
This was seen as a declaration of war by the Thai and the King called his banners and devastated dozens of towns and villages before the Cambodian King met him at the Battle of Lambacktao where both armies clashed inconclusively. This historical anchor point defines until today the relations between Thai and Cambodians.
In this particular instance a tree fell on the border.
