Wrong, there are different segments of tourism not everyone that comes here is filthy rich, in fact that kind of tourist is the less common, most middle income american families can easily afford a week or two of vacations here in the caribbean even some lower income do sometimes.

Tourism as an industry is a very powerful tool to motorize a whole economy from the construction sector to the agro and service sectors.

But it do comes with some backlash if not regulated properly: higher prices in all segments for the locals, water scarcity, traffic saturation, etc.
