Why do non-Whites have such a hard time understanding who is and isn't White?

I met a Haitian woman who thought Brazilians were White, a Sri-Lankan who thought Spaniards were White, a Turkish woman who thinks Italians are White, and a Greek guy who thought everyone in Europe should be considered White.

It's a distinct continent of people separated by other continents and other peoples by distinct geographical features. Plate tectonics are irrelevant to anything. Asia is just land that extends past Europe.
