In the US of A, we often reference location by stating something is "north/south of the Mason-Dixon line" or "east/west of the Mississippi"
Do you have such boundaries in your country?
"The South" doesn't exist anymore. Most people living in Texas are from California, and most people living in Florida are from New York.

We have some dividing line where people either play football or AFL. But for offhand geography the only one I’ve heard is in reference to “the range”, eg over the range, at the base of the range, etc.
