Because Rajasthan was constantly attacked by Muslim armies due to its location, it produced lots of hill forts where the Hindus would station themselves during a siege since it was easier to defend a high point especially when you had canons decked on the fort walls. There are around 300 hill forts in Rajasthan, out of which 6 are designated as UNESCO heritage sites.

Many of these forts have haunted stories attached to them since many self immolations and suicides took place during sieges.
