I've been trying to learn Chinese and the media for it just sucks. I'm not saying you'll learn Japanese by watching anime but you'll coincidentally learn things by just consuming regular media and being on the internet. Doesn't feel that way at all with Chinese because Chinese media sucks.

Still, Japan would be much nicer to visit (until they get real sick of foreigners and decide to [rightfully] genocide them). There is more content to enjoy in Japanese, really the only language besides English with a *ton* of neat shit to read/watch/play. Japanese culture is really interesting and based.

China will help you get a job chinkwrangling. There is no shortage of weeaboos that speak Japanese, so it's a way more desired skill. Only a handful of autists learn it to jobmax, nobody else really gives that much of a fuck about China.
