The Japanese population is still close to the all time high, it will have to drop to maybe 100-80 million before housing prices will actually become cheaper, making bigger families more attractive again when people can afford to have a big house or even multiple

Yes anon that's exactly how it works, it's not like more people crowd themselves in Tokyo while the rest of the country turns into a wasteland
When Bosnia and Ukraine lost 20% of their population they actually became the Switzerlands of Europe because there was more stuff for every person, with every dead Ukrainian the country edges closer to being second Qatar

As a Pole you should actually have a lot of knowledge about how this works, after the Germans were expelled in your western territories I'm sure there were a lot of Poles who suddenly had access to a lot of housing and land and could have bigger families. But I guess given that they were put under a communist system they could not grow as dynamically as in a capitalist scenario

>I don't think having cheaper housing will make people want to have babies
Why wouldn't it? If the only thing you can afford is a small apartment of course people are going to have no or maybe 1 kid max.
Imagine if you have a family of 5 in a small apartment, everyone wakes up at the same time to go to school/work and everyone shares the same bathroom. If everyone wanted to shower there's no way they would all get ready in time.
So the only people who have multiple children in small housing environment are going to be poor people/unemployed people/terrible parents that don't care about living in a crowded little apartment and that their children are stinky when they go to school.

If on the other hand you had a big house with multiple bathrooms where all the kids get their own room and can easily have friends over with no crowding issues, of course you can have at least 2 or more children. It's common sense really

Maybe because they're the ones most tolerant of it, like self-selection. It doesn't necessarily mean cheaper housing wouldn't mean more kids.
Also, if you just can't find a place at all and both or you are forced to live at your parents' house, even a shoebox, you probably would be even less likely to yave kids.

It doesn't work that way. By the time population is 80 million people, the median age will be over 60. Young couples will have to have like 4 kids just to have a little bit of population growth.
