I'm a 3nd gen immigrant hapa on my Chinese side
I like the ideals of Australia but the society I live in is far from embodying those ideals
True blue Australians who are able to have a fair go and give others a fair go, a relaxed life that you spend with your mates without an obsession with material possessions or money
Sometimes I meet Australians who embody this ideal, for example one time I was waiting in the car and rolled up to the guy at a glacial pace and bumped him in the rear of his car. He got out and had a look, realised no damage was done and said 'you're right mate' and drove off.
That's a 'fair dinkum' Australian
These days the dream isn't to produce anything you can be proud of, buying everything from China, pretending it's 'made in Australia' and selling it to other Australians for a huge markup is what 'aspirational Australians' do
It's not about about getting your castle anymore, it's about owning the home of others and charging them exorbitant rent, unleashing all your scumminess and cruelty on your tenants so long as it's legal
It's about the land price of your property going up each month by a larger amount than your entire monthly income
It's about being greedy, trying to get everything you can out of everyone, it's about childcare owners raking in the cash when the services they provide are pure garbage and showing off in expensive sports cars
Everything is fucked in this country, we've squandered every opportunity we had
I hate John Howard and think he's fucked this country but I unironically wish we could go back to calling things unaustralian and using the phrase 'true blue aussie' more, fuck this aspirational Australian bullshit

I mean pride usually means feeling a sense of accomplishment due to the things that others from your country have accomplished, and I don't feel that way. Some people for example go a bit too hard on the muh conquistadors or muh tercios larp for example
