I hitchhiked through Bosnia in 2014, and pretty much everyone I met, even in ethnically Bosniak areas, loved their booze.

I'm sure there are plenty of devout and pious Muslims, but Sarajevo and its surroundings didn't strike me as being very conservative. Didn't get the chance to make it down to that one cool city with the river gorge and bridge. But I'm sure you find more radical nutjobs in the countryside, as is always the case. But I get the impression that Balkan Muslims are even more secular than urban Turks, who are either "standard religious Muslim" or "raving degenerate."

It's just tradition here in much of the Philippines to get circumcised as a preteen as a coming of age ritual, doesn't even have a religious element attached. Some theorize it's a holdover from when Islam was more popular but I don't really know.
