Most of those poor saps get suckered back in the mediocrity of France and end up working in middle management at a CAC40 firm with a thin chance at becoming successful in their late 60s. I would know, I'm one. Most of those who make it out (and that's less than 5% of a whole class) of this dump come back buck broken less than a decade after. The X/ENA dream is through, done, killed, it died the moment the elites realised they could just reproduce themselves in Swiss boarding schools and hire their own after paying for a M.S. at HEC.

but the real career path from eth zürich is not tech as tech do not care that much about degrees and schools but jobs like proprietary trader, quant, risk analyst, data science, market risk bullshit, etc. these are the jobs are actively looking for math/physics msc/phd students and it gives you a bonus if you are from a famous school. tech jobs are much more easier to get, pointless to grind these hard schools to get a job as a software engineer

FAANG only holds career events at Oxbridge and ETHZ.
And to get an interview or internship, you need some connection on the inside.
And guess where the Profs with alumni who work at FAANG are located?

>proprietary trader, quant,
Very small market and you need much more than an ETHZ degree to get such a job.

>risk analyst, data science,
LLMs can do you job in 10s.

>market risk
Not nearly as prestigious and sought after. 75k starting in Munich.

Once you have experience and can demonstrate that you're in the top 30%, let say, it's really not that hard to get a job in the US.

Names alone and 'reputation' don't meet shit. It's all about making the right connections at the right time but if you are an outsider from the very beginning and make it inside chances are you will still come out as a nobody at the other end, sorry.

>Very small market and you need much more than an ETHZ degree to get such a job

My uni has a partnership with them, double degree I think.
Employers not care what uni you graduate from, it's useful for landing internships but if you have a solid network it will be worth more than a prestigious college degree.

Also entry-level research doesn't pay at all, and getting to become a professor has more to do with, you guessed it, networking.

well for one, there really aren't any of them here. I guess there are some mid sized companies like microtik and ubiquiti, but they're both here specifically for the dirt cheap slave labor (microtik came here originally and ubiquiti came afterwards to steal their slaves), there's no way they will ever let one escape. I don't think there are any other US corps with codemonkey offices here. Couple global sweatshop firms like accenture I guess.

What is your PhD in?
Here's an example. If you did Computer Engineering and touched FPGA programming, there's a few boutique firms in the US who need specialized FPGA programmers and since most Americans only do a BSc almost none of them get experience doing something like that, and although there are a lot of foreign MSc students, almost all of them are trying to get a job in SV or NYC, so if you are a bit flexible, you might land a job doing FPGA programming in North Carolina.
A PhD is typically enough to get you an interview.
Or you could just do a PostDoc and go from there.

At the graduate level you're supposed to go to a university because they're researching something close to your area of expertise. It's no different from searching for a job.
Getting an M.Eng and especially a PHD might make you less employable than someone with a bachelor's.
