NTA but we're put under Asian in the census and on official documents. If they gave us our own Indian category that would be great. South Asian is used because it's neutral. There's no other term to refer to people from across the subcontinent that doesn't have political or cultural connotations. None of us are trying to larp as Japanese people. Also Indians in India hate the term South Asian as it lumps them together with Pakistan.
