now when i think about it, the fact that this guy was buying alcohol might have sparked that tension even more than the fact that he was wearing shorts
these black-shirted guys look like some local shariah police and they probably spotted a bearded guy in this booze store so they entered that and his shorts just were the last straw.

You know, it's kinda weird for Ossetia. They're majority just pagans or Christians. Muslims are only like 15% of their republic or so.
