We used to get millions of tons of "recyclable" plastic from Europe and the US for "recycling". Essentially all the "Recycling" companies in the West simply ship their waste to Asia and Africa for "processing". They get paid by their government and then use some of the money to pay unscrupulous Asian/African companies to import the waste. Out of sight, out of mind. These companies then simply dump the plastics into thr rivers and sea and pocket the money. Malaysia has banned this practice a few years ago.
