The number of gay people in Brazil is below the global average.
In Brazil, 2.9 million people aged 18 or older identify as lesbian, gay, or bisexual. The data comes from the National Health Survey (PNS): Self-identified sexual orientation of the adult population, released today (25) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
The data, collected in 2019, show that 94.8% of the adult population, equivalent to 150.8 million people, identify as heterosexual, that is, they are sexually or emotionally attracted to people of the opposite sex; 1.2%, or 1.8 million, declare themselves homosexual, attracted to people of the same sex or gender; and 0.7%, or 1.1 million, declare themselves bisexual, attracted to more than one gender or binary sex.

Among adults in 30 countries, 9% identify as LGBT+, distributed as follows: 3% lesbian/gay, 4% bisexual, 1% pansexual/omnisexual, and 1% asexual.
In terms of gender identity, 1% identify as transgender, 1% as non-binary/gender fluid, and 1% as another gender.
