just as im a ukboo, your villages looks just as cosy just with rock and brick housing instead of wood. it doesnt look as sovlfull but it also doesnt get overwhelming as quick. its a setting i can endure longer.

the picturesque nature of it all makes it look nice in my opinion, i never really liked the look of how all over the place say, london looks while somewhere uniform like paris is really beautiful to me. trust me majority of uk brick houses and buildings do not look nice aside from the ones in rich areas whereas i can look at a low income town from sweden or anywhere else in europe really and think its as nice as its upper class equivalents.

Most cities are riddled with modernism though, you'll have small parts that are still picturesque but it's overwhelmingly a concrete hell hole like everywhere else. The entire architect fleet (from schools to jobs) is infiltrated by modernists so everything new that is being built is ugly, it's slowly replacing everything beautiful.

with a population density of 343 vs 26 per square kilometer a village in japan will not be the same as a village in sweden, it just cant. citys in sweden will be regarded as villages in japan.
most non nordics dont understand how utterly desolate parts of the nordics are and how far between each others some people live, sweden perhaps being the worst/best in this regards.
an example, closest ikea for lots of northern norwegians is the one in haparanda, sweden and its a 12h drive to get there through finland.
wanna buy a shelf and a chair? yeah lets make a weekend long trip to sweden.
