2000s era TV was terrible in so many different ways. The worst offenders were the cheap reality TV shows that made fun of poor people, but these purposefully cruel programmes where people were mocked in front of live audiences were also pretty bad.

No it isn't. The Jeremy Kyle show was treated as if its host was earnestly trying to solve people's problems in a mature way. Of course, in reality, it turned out that guests were being given alcohol ahead of time and told various things that would rile them up before they came out on stage so that they would start fights and do funny things. Jeremy Kyle would mock and berate them, getting some hack psychologist to reinforce his arguments, and administer lie detector tests (which are notoriously unreliable, but treated as if they were unquestionable truth), all while the audience clapped and laughed at them.

90 Day Fiancée is much more light-hearted. It's pure spectacle and everyone know it, the fakeness is obvious, and there's no malicious host tearing people down in front of a live audience.
