Why does Japan have a strong association of America = blonde hair and blue eyes?

It's bizarre because most of my fellow Americans expats here come from all sorts of backgrounds. Almost all blondes I know back home are bleached fake blondes too.

You can't even say it's Hollywood propaganda because Hollywood is usually pretty diverse ...
