The name Ecuador is Spanish for Equator.
They own the Galapagos Islands, which are about 700 miles off the coast.
They were the northernmost point of the Incan empire.
Guayaquil was once the world's largest producer of shrimp and helped turned shrimp from a luxury dish into a common bulk seafood.
There's a massive difference in climate between the lowland cities and the cities in the mountains.
That's about it. Probably more than most Americans but most Americans didn't have a crush on a cute Ecuadorian girl growing up.

There's not much of a story. She was cute and was from Ecuador so I learned a bunch about Ecuador to try to impress her. Typical stupid kid stuff. In hindsight I think this is the only girl I can truthfully say I "fumbled". She would go out of her way to talk to me and I never asked her out. Oh well.
