Euthanasia is becoming normalised. I think in another generation or two it will be common for old people to be euthanised when they start becoming a too big burden on relatives and the state with the same justification we use for euthanising sick and old pets. I am 99% sure my grandfather was effectively euthanised by a doctor in the hospital by giving him an overdose of some medication because it was a mercy instead of letting him keep wasting away from cancer for another couple of weeks.

This is an issue with production and not available resources. Only about 5% of the water supply of Mälaren gets used as drinking water for Stockholm because this country has become a capitalistmaxxing shithole where only the bare minimum is invested in infrastructure.

It is true that when done correctly, nuclear energy is fantastic. But the more reactors we have, the more likely it is that at least one of them will suffer catastrophic failure, even for engineering malpractice alone. Like, it's very difficult to agree that nuclear energy is safe when the argument comes from a nation that casually poisoned half of Europe and then pretended that nothing happened.

Yes but Soviet Union was a heavily centralized state where decisions were taken in Moscow, so I blame Russians for why:
1. They decided to build a shitty reactor.
2. They decided to run YOLO experiments.
3. They decided to play dumb when inquired about the disaster.

Sure, the reactor itself was in Ukraine, but all the relevant decisions were taken in Moscow.

I admit that I have a bias against Russians because hating Russians is not only pleasure, it's also obligation. Sorry, but I am a flawed human, and sometimes emotions get in line of logic.

Seriously though, I think that Japan is actually a better argument against nuclear energy than Russia. Let me use Russia/Soviet Union interchangeably - the Chernobyl disaster happened in a country where systematic corruption was the everyday norm, which is more of a proof that Russia fucked up, while Fukushima disaster happened in Japan, which is a country that is much more "in the clear". Fukushima proved that nuclear energy can blow up even in a highly developed and functional country, therefore nuclear energy itself is NOT safe.

Having said the above, one crucial difference is that the Japanese immediately told everyone "wow shit got fucked, everyone pay attention" while Russians simply denied denied denied.

I have to admit that my knowledge here might be imperfect, but my parents, having lived in one of communist satellite countries, claim that widespread corruption was not only rampant, it was normal.

No it's not. Nuclear fallout in Germany didn't care when the Soviets finally admitted Chernobyl happened but tried to hide the real scale.

What i meant to say is that you're describing nowadays Russia. On top of that, there was an entire decade of pretty much lawlessness and chaos in the 1900s. In 30 years - no major incidents, in fact Rosatom was doing some cleanups here and there.

I guess you meant 1990s lol.

I think our difference in perception is that after the Soviet Union collapsed, Russia became extremely chaotic, and nowadays we have Putin casually having decided to start a war for shits and giggles, so it seems like the soviet system wasn't that bad because it mostly functioned (if we forget about the whole Chernobyl thing), and least compared to what came afterwards.

Meanwhile my country has immeasurably improved after communists left, so it's really hard to describe communist times with anything other than "corrupt shithole".

Nothing changed since then. It's still mostly fucnctioning, still the important decisions being made by a very limited amount of people while the rest is removed from politics. The only difference is that now, or rather, befroe teh war, people in charge were able to syphon their wealth abroad.
BTW you can thank the West and American leadership specifically for that, they were the advisors that helped to build the system, and later with the IMF to keep it from crambling in 1996 by helping Eltsyn stay in power for one more term.
