Doggerland was a prehistoric landmass now submerged beneath the North Sea. It was inhabited by Mesolithic hunter-gatherers, often referred to as the Doggerlanders.
They migrated seasonally, hunting, fishing, and gathering food such as hazelnuts and berries in the region's rich environment of hills, valleys, and wetlands. Evidence suggests they may have formed complex societies and potentially even permanent settlements, indicating a level of social organization beyond typical mobile hunter-gatherers.
Evidence also indicates that Neanderthals inhabited the Doggerland region during the Paleolithic and Ice Age. A Neanderthal skull fragment was discovered off the coast of the Netherlands, providing insight into their presence in the area. The inhabitants of Doggerland were eventually displaced by rising sea levels caused by climate change and melting glaciers, forcing them to higher ground
