You cannot physically open the door (or pick the lock) from the other side if the key is left in. Plus you don’t ever have to look for it.

It makes the lock harder to pick, and means you can't just break a pane of glass or panel of wood and turn the knob on the inside.

we have a key lock and another lock for the knob on the inside
that way you can close it by the knob if you don't want anyone to come in, or you can just close it with the key if you have family members or someone else with a key that you want to be able to come in
