We hate colorful trees, bushes or plants for some reason. I don't know why. Nobody wants to plant things that make fruit or have flowers.

Go around a regular neighborhood with no HOA, and you see the same thing. Zero flowers. Zero fruit. Bland green bushes and trees that never make flowers. And tons of bug killer to kill off any remaining bees who might survive off the single house with flowers.

Americans pay 30% tax in new york city, that's the same as germanic countries. But unlike them they don't get free healthcare and education.

if i had a big yaaaaaard like that i would fill every available space with things like tomatoes, herbs, potatoes, leeks etc
it doesnt take much more maintenance to grow things like this than it is to take care of a lawn

It's less maintenance, provides a bigger space for the kids to play, and, most crucially, attracts less insects/wildlife. You might think le heckin' deer and sandhill cranes are cool, but you'll think they're less cool when your yard is covered in deer shit and holes from them digging for grubs.

The "less maintenance" mentality is also responsible for the disappearance of sidewalks and communal parks and any landscaping whatsoever from many HOA neighborhoods. Ironically despite their claimed purpose of keeping developments prestine and presentable for prospective homeowners their budgeting always seems to result in the hoods becoming barren, no frills.

I have a fig tree, lemon free, kumquat tree, and a pomegranate tree in my front yard
I have a cherry tree, apricot tree, lime tree, and cherry tomato grape vines in my backyard
Also have a little patch where I planted cucumbers and watermelons
I live in California so we can grow whatever we want here
