There is a metric in topology called “the French railway metric” where the distance between two points is given by the sum of their respective distances to a distinguished point (Paris). It’s clearly meant as a joke.

I can only speak for yhe LiO-trains in occitania, but they're awesome. You pay 10€ to go wherever you want for the whole day. I'm pretty sure most locals simple ignore buying tickets. I've enver encountered someone doing a control

I always do. Spent some more time in Toulouse last time and I have to say it's probably my favorite city in France. Perpignan is not doing very well, but I still like it a lot due to nostalgic reasons.

France has probably the best individual urban rail transit system in Europe, THOUGH Germany arguably has the biggest overall number of good or great transit systems.
