Based. Settlements that no longer have an economic reason to exist should disappear and the population should migrate to places that have more opportunities.

The mobility of our population is a major asset for our country. People will move thousand miles away to somewhere they know nobody on a whim. And there's very little cultural differences between our regions which make integration extremely easy.

it was originally relevant because it was at the intersection of two major rivers.
it was built on a hostile floodplain, which reduced interest from the beginning, but was prime real estate because of the rivers, so it persisted.
then railroads took over waterways, and the important rail lines did not cross.
then highways took over rail lines, and the important highways did not cross.
it was no longer worth the effort to maintain a town on a hostile floodplain without an economic incentive.
now it's just a historic oddity.
