How does Russia manage to look so aesthetic even in it's low income areas.
In comparison, look at poor areas in China and India. They look bad. But Russian poor areas still look good. Russia somehow manages to maintain it's cozy feel no matter what.

The answer is simple: Russia has contributed to European culture many times more than many EU countries. Literature, music, painting, avant-garde art, military science, and military lessons for particularly aggressive european nations. The USSR contributed to this by spreading the cultural foundations of traditions that had formed in Russia among all strata of Russian society. For example, in the early years of Soviet power, factory workers were required to attend cultural events. Every Soviet enterprise had a department responsible for “cultural and mass events.” The result of the Soviet Union's efforts was a higher level of culture, ethics, and morality among the population (for example, divorce was condemned, each divorce was published in the local newspaper as a sign of shame, no one had ever heard of drugs, and prostitution was considered something terrible from the world of capitalism), and the pinnacle of Soviet efforts was the so-called “Soviet intelligentsia” — scientists, officials, artists, actors, musicians, writers, enterprise managers, and others.

What do you think people are doing behind all those dark windows? Just sitting there drinking and listening to depressing music?

Probably just trying to get by. It's oddly peaceful in this image. Maybe I have an over-romanticized view of Russia.
I'm gonna be like those Japanese people that visit Paris and get absolutely mindbroken.
