How come Japan and Korea have more tv and movie exports than all of Europe combined? Why is it so hard for Europeans to appeal to the global market? You would think being so culturally similar to the USA it would be easier but they have no influence at all outside of their own borders

>Why fund lots of shows when we can just sub/dub American ones
>My favourite singer? Why it's <insert American>
Those countries have enough sense to build things up internally or outright limit foreign media, it's ridiculous to think that there are people in Europe who don't listen to a single musician from their own country and it's all Americans

Entertainment industry is just very sad. I am not sure how to explain it, i think you have to experience it.

It is an illusion, that only seems great from the perspective of the audience.
When you look at it from inside, it just puppet theater and costumes.

Specifically german movie is called Hollywood, but I am not going into details.

I think France actually has a decent media industry but for bong land at least post WW2 outside of tv (supported by the loicence of course) i think everyone just gave up on the idea that we could have any influence outside of our people moving to hollywood. if you making any media inenglish it makes zero economic, free market sense to ever make anything not set in america using american english and american aesthetics if you simply want to make as much money as possible due to the sheer size of the market.

Korea is legit very impressive how they have managed to make their country so popular the past couple of decades.

I can only speak for my country but... we don't try? Those who want to "make it in hollywood" tend to you know, move to hollywood. As nations we do not care if people watch our entertainment, we make it for ourselves. Sometimes it will randomly catch on with an international audience, but that's just a side effect of making something for ourselves.
